“In a world where assets are being tokenized, frictionless movement of these assets across chains and venues is essential to removing liquidity bottlenecks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and achieving scale. Open, interoperable standards are the foundation for this: without them, tokenization will remain fragmented, costly, and difficult to adopt.”

Anthony Ralphs

The Interoperability Standards Organization for Digital Assets (I-SODA) at MIT engages with industry participants to abstract and publish standards for digital assets. I-SODA works as follows:

  • Token analysis: collating and reviewing of existing and proposed token implementations
  • Data Model Definition: enabling the creation of token primitives and use case / asset specific requirements
  • Lifecycle Participants: defining a taxonomy for token lifecycle participation and the role(s) played by various participants
  • Common digital functions: a consistent framework that can be applied to smart contracts, or other forms of code, which enable the interaction with the token
  • Legal and governance: the regulatory frameworks which currently exist for assets in a non-blockchain habitat will be mapped and published to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
